Wow, that sounds awesome! The movie and the fall setting both. BTW, Jon is planning to get in touch about a small gig that may interest you...

There's one of these overly-intricate thriller that were fashionable at some point that is set in Brighton. It's called Circus. The film is not great (though I love Hannah's voice in just anything he ever cares to act in), but it gives a good feeling for Brighton's seediness potential.
I went there for a music festival set in the Fall, and my vision of it is accordingly deserted and melancholy. All this to say I can see how that would work with the book.

No, I don't think of him as a teenage fancy! Yes, the English Brighton--I've never been there, but one of my cousins lived there for a year, said it was absolutely beautiful. But the book is a crime novel, so a little removed from the care-free holiday scene...

No, I haven't read anything from him yet. Well, not really: I started The Quiet American almost (gasp) 20 years ago, but it didn't catch my teenage fancy and I've never had an opportunity to go back to it. I refuse to think about it right now... Oh, now you have gone and done it! Is this the English Brighton? I love the place so much, I could just add this to my never-ending list :)

So exciting! I am with you on the whole one book at a time thing, I started twitching with irritation when I have to start something else while I'm still on the first--at least when it's fiction. Oh, have you read any Graham Greene? I finally read some that Jon brought home and he is simple amazing. The Quiet American is one of the most perfect books I've ever read. And Brighton Rock, the other one I read, is SO up your alley!
